I myself view it possible that not everywhere will collapse. Already there are countries that are adapting. Sweden started it's efforts to weed itself off oil-dependence in 2005. As long as it is stable by the time get really bad, it should be able to pull through. The same is true of any country. They might not be what they once were, but they would still pull through. For those states that do not adapt on time, they will have to whittle away functions such as health care, social security, and eventually even education, until they have only the bare minimum needed to sustain themselves. It will be up to the people of the countries themselves to take up the functions the state dropped. Those that have the needed skills and supplies will be invaluable in these cases. As for the Neo-Malthusian ideas in Ishmael about food production and pop
growth being inherently linked I must say this; Such is true when there is material scarcity, but look at what
happens in developed countries and you'll see that if that scarcity is lacking enough, then people will be able to question whether unlimited growth is ideal. America's population is at an equilibrium, and Europe is caught in the Eurabia mess because of the questioning of unlimited growth as ideal.

Don't get me wrong, I am not for the system as is. It's just that every time I talk about my idea involving this, they say "They're outbrreding us! If we go all ecological, we will lose the War on Terror!" And over time, I've come to think of the term Good Muslim as the modern equivalant of Good German. If they don't object to the things the extremists do, then they are not as moderate as they claim to be.
Now since that is dealt with, I'll stop for now to answer questions.

Chiron in Aquarius
Dear Readers:

The shocking news of the week, and the best astrology news in quite a while, is that Chiron is about to go into Aquarius for the first time since 1961. This happens Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 at 6:09 pm GMT in London, 1:09 pm EST in New York, 10:09 am PST in California, 5:09 am on Tuesday, Feb. 22 in Sydney, and 13:56 local time at Cydonia Mensae, at the 'Face on Mars'.

For those who would like to start from the beginning on Chiron, this is a minor planet orbiting our Sun that was discovered in 1977 by astronomer Charles Kowal. It was at the time considered the first significant discovery since Pluto in 1930, which is largely because it was found orbiting outside any known asteroid belt.

Chiron is not exactly what most astronomers, or astrologers, think of as a planet; personally, I don't get hung up on this discussion, because most people (including scientists) are offering arbitrary, as in unscientific, arguments, which are not so poetic either. There is nothing in the world uglier than a scientist making emotional arguments. I say if it acts like a planet astrologically, it's a planet. But according to the legend, Chiron was initially announced as a planet, so it got the attention of some astrologers, who were very dedicated and passionate at the time. Technically, it turns out to be a huge 'proto comet' about 160-180 KM across, which is enormous for a comet nucleus. It has an atmosphere or two, a couple of tails, and a fairly large following in the astrological world, as these things go.

Chiron is believed to have been pulled into the inner solar system from the region where Pluto lives, called the Kuiper Belt. Compared to Pluto, which was discovered in 1930 and which didn't have a book written about it in English till around 1985, Chiron has gained ground among astrologers very fast.

Chiron's first astrological keyword was bestowed by its astronomical discoverer: maverick, or the one who does things differently. "This thing is a maverick," he said, because it defied any known planetary category. He called it Chiron because Chiron was half-man, half-horse, neither truly human nor truly animal, but a kind of crossbreed. As such, Chiron's story is the story of all humanity, as we all live with the division between human and animal, and in many respects that is what makes us truly human.

Chiron was discovered in the sign Taurus. It's discovery degree symbol, or Sabian symbol, is 'The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow', which is about the linking of the mundane and the celestial order. Hence we have a source for all the rainbow, bridge, and transition between the cosmic and mundane type imagery given to Chiron, and which it seems to deserve.

Chiron's more subtle themes, as later deduced by astrologers, are very much in tune with both Chiron's name and myth, and also the era in which it was discovered, centering on what was at the time called 'human potential'. Yes, there was a time in history not so long ago when people were willing to admit that the human race had actual potential, and that together we could make the world a better place. The mid-to-late 70s were a daring era in history, with much experimentation in feminism, therapy, spiritual ideology, divination, astrology, organic food and sexuality. Holistic healing was starting to get attention. Look around at the oldest institutions, from yoga programs to food co-ops, and you'll see that many of them started in the late 70s to early 80s.

One interesting bit about Chiron is that there exist what are called 'pre-discovery photos' -- pictures of the night sky including Chiron that were later found in the file cabinets of observatories, but which nobody at the time connected to the existence of a planet. The first such photo was taken in 1895, in the same year that D.D. Palmer did the world's first procedure in a new medical art he had discovered, what he called 'chiropractic' -- curing a janitor in his office building of deafness by adjusting the bones of his spine. Chiropractic is a holistic form of medicine and was named for Chiron, the first Centaur of Greek mythology. The word 'Chiron' means 'one who has hands' and many things of a chirotic nature, such as chiropractic, are done with the hands. Along the same lines, the French word for surgery is 'chirurgie'.

Chiron of Greek mythology was a famous healer, surgeon, herbalist and mentor to the generation of great heroes of the Helenic age: Jason, Heracles, and Achilles among them, and Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine. (Chiron was taught the art of medicine by Apollo.) So right away we see some core Chiron themes: teaching, healing, medical arts, and the hands. Psychologically, Chiron focuses awareness, generally around some kind of injury, creating processes in the psyche where one typically starts with an early injury or weakness of some kind and then -- due to little other than the need to adapt to life on the planet -- develops it in to a talent, a gift or a healing skill. If the pain associated with that injury or weakness is not addressed, then it can get worse and not better, or more deeply entrenched, until at some point awareness is added to the equation. This often happens during Chiron transits, where systems seem to break down so that new ones can take over.

Since Aquarius deals with systems of all kinds, this may be a defining quality of the Aquarius phase.

Chiron is now working as an outer planet, as it has crossed outside of Saturn's orbit. Chiron's orbit is located between Saturn and Uranus. Saturn takes about 29 years to go around the Sun; Uranus takes about 84 years to go around the Sun; Chiron takes just over 50 years. All planets (as Kepler figured out) have an elliptical or egg-shaped orbit, but Chiron's is unusually so. At the close end of its cycle, the perihelion, it comes inside Saturn's orbit and at the far end, the aphelion, it goes out nearly (but not quite) as far as Uranus.

Thus, Chiron functions as a mediator between the 'structure' property of Saturn and the 'energy' property of Uranus. It can work or appear to work as either of these two planets, but more often it brings energy and change into a structured system (such as a relationship or job), or alternately helps apply structure to an experience of energy. Remember though that both Saturn and Uranus are planets associated with Aquarius, so no matter how you look at it, Chiron brings a lot of energy into the equation. When Chiron shows up, there are usually immediate developments, so Chiron is very useful and practical, particularly in doing diagnostic work with an astrological chart.

Because of its elliptical orbit, Chiron takes just 18 months to go through Libra, where it's nearest to the Sun (this occurred in 1997), and nine years to go through Aries, where it's the furthest from the Sun (this last occurred in the early 1970s). Now that it's reaching the far side of its orbit, Chiron will take about six years to go through Aquarius. It has taken about three and a half years to go through Capricorn, beginning in late 2001 (just after the Sept. 11 incident), though it still has a little more time left in that sign; 2005 is the transition between Chiron in Capricorn and Chiron in Aquarius.

This is because Chiron will retrograde back into Capricorn on August 1, retrograde back to 28 degrees, station and come back to Aquarius on Dec. 5. It will remain in Aquarius until it begins to transition out of that sign and into Pisces in 2010 and 2011. As I covered extensively in Bridge to the Core, Chiron in Aquarius is the single most consistent new factor between now and 2012; it is the express train to the future. It seems clear, from experience and intuitively, that this is an era-defining astrological change.

Here is the chart for the first entry of Chiron to Aquarius:

What we get in the coming couple of seasons is a warm-up to the new era. Chiron has an unusual way of helping define eras in history, seeming to do so increasingly as it gets further from the Sun and slows down. The now-ending Chiron in Capricorn phase has brought out evidence of some of the most sordid behavior by governments and corporations since Machiavelli personally ate meat on the planet. But in true Chiron fashion, this activity has been brought to light rather than be kept hidden away. Chiron's main job is to light the way to spiritual growth by raising awareness, or at least making awareness available if we want it. When we look back on this era in a few years, we will be stunned at what we knew and took so nonchalantly -- of this, I would be happy to bet the entire reading audience dinner (as a journalist, I always welcome free meals).
Chiron is doing some fancy tricks this spring. Chiron in Aquarius is fancy enough. Aquarius is a very different energy than Capricorn. Capricorn deals with issues and themes relating to authority, parents and obligations. Aquarius is about community, groups of people, collective enterprises, and the quest for belonging and tribal consciousness. So Chiron in Aquarius is likely to raise the whole issue of WE, and what WE are doing, and what WE mean to one another, and who I am in connection to US. Aquarius is the extremely useful zone in astrology where we all figure out that we're not alone, but we have to figure out who we are first, or at least notice that we exist. The Aquarius formula is that true individuality comes right before true group consciousness. Another part of the formula is that freedom requires responsibility.

The first really fancy trick is that Chiron is now forming an close conjunction to another planet in its class, Nessus -- the third Centaur planet (discovered in 1993, and which reached Aquarius a few weeks ago). This reaches its most exact position the first week of May. My take is that this is a major, era-defining aspect that awakens the culture in some way. Aquarius is the sign of 'we the people' and Chiron brings significant awareness wherever it goes. Nessus comes with the theme, 'the buck stops here', and is always quite willing to point out the psychological darkness on the planet -- and give us the tools to heal it. So, as I see it, the buck stops with we the people. We can expect to see, and partake in, some resistance to the many shenanigans perpetuated by the so-called leaders holding office in the Western world. By August, both planets will have retrograded back into Capricorn, where they remain in a close conjunction, giving us one last fabulous hurrah for the Chiron in Capricorn ('post 9/11') era.

The next impressive move that Chiron is making is that when it goes into Aquarius and stations in an exact conjunction with Nessus, it's making an exact square (or 90 degree angle) to its discovery position. This is to say that Chiron was discovered in the 4th degree of Taurus in 1977. Now, it reaches the 4th degree of Aquarius, along with Nessus. Taurus and Aquarius are fixed signs, so that means we get a square aspect. So we have a landmark moment in the history of Chiron itself, and its place in our minds, our development and our astrology. In the story of one's Chiron transits, the square is usually a big moment.

The next fancy trick is that there are currently under way a series of seven Chiron oppositions to Saturn. The next three will occur with Chiron and Saturn in their new signs, Aquarius and Leo, respectively. The next one is July 21, 2005, very close to a Full Moon, both in time (four hours before) and in distance (the Capricorn Full Moon is in the late degrees of Cancer/Capricorn, just two degrees away from the Saturn-Chiron opposition). Mark your calendar and fasten your seatbelts. This aspect-event is going to involve a lot of people and come with some major revelation, shift or change. My take is that this will arrive on the heels of a very exciting springtime, and whatever occurs may seem like a reaction to the energy that has been raised, and a reaction it may be.

But whatever the dark forces have up their sleeves, Chiron in Aquarius is setting off a social process that's not going to be reversed. The years between now and 2012 come with a long series of escalations, elevations, and increase in the vibration level of the planet. There will be ups and downs, but the one thing that's most likely to increase is consciousness. Which leads to the last fancy production of Chiron I'll discuss today.

It is tempting to use previous cycles of planets in an attempt to understand what the next cycle will bring, and I'm going to give into that temptation. The previous phase of Chiron in Aquarius, which began Thursday, Jan. 27, 1955, is certainly instructive. This occurred during a Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in Cancer, with Mercury in Aquarius opposite Pluto in Leo. This was at the very height of the Cold War, the Red Scare, and the above-ground, domestic testing of the atomic bomb in the Southwestern United States. Dwight Eisenhower, a retired WWII general who could not decide if he wanted to be a Democrat or a Republican when he entered politics a few years earlier, was president.

Life was strict. If you were a mom and your apple pie didn't come out perfect, your husband could call the police and have you arrested.

It was at this time in history that something called the Beat Generation was getting under way. The Beat Generation was both a literary movement and a much wider social movement. The Beats were the generation that brought us the idea of 'finding yourself' as a widespread social phenomenon. They were mostly young people who were rejecting the traditional capitalist values of the day, waging a rebellion that included free expression, forming community, living collectively, and experimenting with states of mind through drugs, spirituality, meditation, drumming and all the things we now take for granted.

Nineteen fifty-five was a huge year in the history of the Beats and the history of the United States and its counterpart, Russia. This was also the year that actor Jimmy Dean died in a car crash at age 24, providing a poignant symbol of lost or sacrificed youth, and reminding all rebels to get a cause. This actually happened. The Civil Rights movement was going into high gear, with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. becoming a household name.

The Cold War became completely entrenched with the takeover of the Kremlin by Nikita Krushchev. While the Beat movement had been heating up for years, a poet named Allen Ginsberg had just arrived in San Francisco the year before and was at the time at work on a poem called Howl. Howl is literally a bellow of pain for an entire generation. It begins with the line, "I saw the best minds of my generation..." which is to say, the poet is bearing witness to collective events -- very Aquarian, and truly Chiron in Aquarius.

Ginsberg organized a series of readings in a garage-gallery in autumn 1955, including reading part of his poem, which would soon be considered one of the great works of American poetry. Jack Kerouac (author of 'On the Road', which came later) met the poet Gary Snyder in Berkeley. Lawrence Ferlinghetti launched City Lights Books with his own 'Pictures of a Gone World'. (City Lights still exists and Ferlinghetti is Poet Laureate of San Francisco.)

This was an era in which many things became so obvious you could not miss them unless you climbed into a trash can or hid down in your bomb cellar -- which many people did. While we view the 1950s as a conformist time, that was true for the conformists. The Beats were committed to absolute authenticity in their writing and in their way of living, and had no use for the values that were dragging society into triviality, hypocrisy and materialism. I will (probably) look at some of their writing as a way of understanding Chiron in Aquarius in tomorrow's lead essay at Planet Waves Weekly.

If you'd like to subscribe, go to this link. Subscriptions still include free access to Bridge to the Core, the annual 2005 Planet Waves horoscope, where there is much information about Chiron in Aquarius.

On a historical note, the last day of Chiron in Aquarius was the day that John F. Kennedy was inaugurated, Jan. 20, 1961. When Chiron left Aquarius, what we think of as the 1960s began -- the work of the Beat Generation spread into the wider culture and led to a massive-scale rejection of capitalist values, an uprising against the Vietnam War, and a great experiment in Human Potential -- which was great while it lasted.

All of this week's questions focus on Chiron.

In a traditional/tribal culture, the most important element is the tribe. In our modern culture, the most important element is the "rugged individualist". How did this happen? Social evolution. Some would say that this transformation is a bad thing and that we have suffered because of it - and I can't completely disagree with them. However, without this radical shift in social consciousness, we would not be living in the peculiar world we find ourselves in today. There would have been no industrial revolution, no democracy or women's lib - we would still be living much the same as we did thousands of years ago.

Good or bad - it's where we find ourselves, and it's certainly not boring.

One of the biggest mistakes we make coming from our post-tribal culture and looking at the tribal community is that we don't realize how fundamentally different we have become. And yet the same basic needs, hungers and synapsis are all there. We have become like the pearl divers of the south Pacific. We can hold our breath for so long that - to those who don't have our training - we seem super human. And yet, we still need to breathe. In the same way, we can act the part of the rugged individual, but we still need connection. Eventually that need will require an answer. Until then it will distort our perceptions and actions until we become even more lost than we already are.

I dream that one day we will make the next step in our social evolution and discover what it's like to be a community of sovereigns.

Love is truth, Love is God, Love is the most beautiful and most raw feeling we could ever have as humans. So here we are the essences of the vision our fathers and mothers had for us, cultivating the one Love. Living in Love, creating happiness as often as we can. We have learned to Love our friends, our community, our music, ourselves, we have made so many changes to be in the path of enlightenment. Still with all that evolution some how we have neglected our ability to Love in the construct of personal relations. Why do we loose the feeling of the one Love when we are in Love with one? What is it that changes our thought processes when it comes to "Lovers"? We are able to love those we call friends unconditionally with out expectations, we allow those people to be themselves, have there faults. And without even a blink of an eye we accept because we Love them. But when in the structure of relationship those same faults, demons, and down falls challenge us to the core. Is it not the same Love? Have we let archaic relationship structures cloud our ability to Love one with one Love? We are embarking on a time of great change and we know deep in our hearts that those that love can be the answer. So now I think we have a challenge to redefine these old traditions with in relation, as we have redefined so many other structures we have been conditioned with. I am not in full support of polysexual relations (if thats what you like go for it) I am personally in support of monogamy with ties to sex. But I am curios about the truth behind polyamory, the ability of the human mind to love in multiples. I truly believe we can change the way we love within relation, as well as how we define relation. I believe this to be one of the more perplexing and challenging philosophical issues i have wrapped my mind around, and i really would love you to sit on this topic, please write any thoughts down. We will be Blessed to hear your thoughts.

Personally, I think it is going to go towards a combo of the Mad Max and The Postman scenarios. Horses and Methane/Biodiesel Cars will be used for mass transport of goods and people. Hopefully it will be more peaceful transition than is predicted in the movies. Maybe we can start forming a future model and figure out how different tribes can cooperate peacefully with their neighboring communities.

When I was a kid, me and my Dad belonged to the YMCA's Indian Guides. We had fake Indian names, and made fake vests and feathered headresses, we met in one of our members' living rooms, sitting on the floor, around a fake fire (made out of some logs, an electric light and some clear red plastic).

The intent was laduable: "fellowship, camping, and community-building activities". But we were fake Indians.

Most real Indians that I ask usually have a lot of contempt for such practices. They have deep respect for their own traditions, and don't normally want it to be cheapened and commercialized.

The ones that I have the closest contact with, tell me that I have my own European traditions, that my people have abandoned centuries ago.

Personally, I think of it as if our ancestral ways destroyed by an explosion. It's as if a car exploded and all we have is some bits and pieces, an owner's manual, pieces of similar cars, and maybe old photographs of the factory where it was built.

We can look to tribal peoples for hints and clues, but most of us do not really belong to these tribes. I love the American Indians and other tribal peoples, and I learn all I can from them, but I refuse to insult their ancient traditions by doing the fake Indian game.

My original tribe, the Papitantrists, started in this way. We looked at what tribal traditions survive from Europe, and we looked at them in a new light from our lessons among the Indians. Although our members are all aging quickly, and we are spread out all over country now, we still stay in touch and remember the tribal traditions that we re-discovered together.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Story_of_B
The Story of B a 1996 novel written by Daniel Quinn and published by Bantam Publishing. It chronicles the teachings of a colleague of Ishmael, whose story is told in the book Ishmael, published in 1992.

The Story of B acts as a halfway point between the novels Ishmael and My Ishmael, also by Daniel Quinn. While referring to (but not based upon) the gorilla Ishmael, Quinn's novel takes readers along side Jared Osborne, a Laurentian priest. Jared is sent by his superiors to Europe to investigate an itinerant preacher who has been stirring up trouble. The preacher is known to his followers as "B", but his enemies say he's the "Antichrist". Pressed for a judgment, Osborne is driven to penetrate B's inner circle where he soon finds himself an anguished collaborator in the dismantling of his own religious foundations.

This contains excerpts from the book:
http://www.awok.org/great-forgetting/

With every audience and every individual, I have to begin by making them see that the cultural self-awareness we inherit from our parents and pass on to our children is squarely and solidly built on a Great Forgetting that occurred in our culture worldwide during the formative millennia of our civilization. What happened during those formative millennia of our civilization? What happened was that Neolithic farming communes turned into villages, villages turned into towns, and towns were gathered into kingdoms. Concomitant with these events were the development of division of labor along craft lines, the establishment of regional and interregional trade systems, and the emergence of commerce as a separate profession. What was being forgotten while all this was going on was the fact that there had been a time when none of it was going on - a time when human life was sustained by hunting and gathering rather than by animal husbandry and agriculture, a time when villages, towns, and kingdoms were undreamed of, a time when no one made a living as a potter or a basket maker or a metalworker, a time when trade was an informal and occasional thing, a time when commerce was unimaginable as a means of livelihood...

Anyone here ever been to Australia?

I must explain: I don't mean this literally.
We're visiting that place inside of us with an unfailing ability to recognize undercurrents. The place that knows, when you can be water you will find water. Ever sucked on a rock, in the desert? Ever wanted something so much, it simply came true before your eyes, like an infomercial on crack?

One night, before I had the sense to notice the phases of the moon, I lay in the grass listening to drum beats all the way from Australia. I beat my heart back, in gratitude and acknowledgment. Celebration mostly.

.................................

As written by the Aboriginal character, Bee Lake:

The following message applies to all souls everywhere. It has been appropriate in every period of time from caveman to the present. There is no distinction between male and female. The task is not worldly success, it is spiritually oriented.

This is a standard that has been held by my people in the Outback Nation since the beginning of time. They have never been farmers, merchants, or herders. They have always been gatherers, musicians, artists, and poets; they lived in oneness with the earth, all its creatures, and each other.

This is one of their ritual chants:

Forever Oneness,
Who sings to us in silence,
Who teaches us through each other,
Guide my steps with strength and wisdom.
May I see the lessons as I walk,
Honor the purpose of all things.
Help me touch with respect,
Always speak from behind my eyes.
Let me observe, not judge.
May I cause no harm, and leave
Music and beauty after my visit.
When I return to Forever,
May the circle be closed and
The spiral be broader.

You are a spiritual being here on earth having a human experience. You elected to come. It was not an accident nor by chance that you were born of the two people who are your biological parents. You were aware of who they were, of the circumstances under which you were conceived, and the inherent genetic pattern of both. You said, "Yes!"

You are a spiritual being evolving into enlightenment. Earth is a classroom in which lessons and demonstrations are available. It is a unique planet with unique life-forms. It is the only place in the universe where six senses - sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell, and intuition - are used with the field of energy, identified as emotions, to connect a visible body to the invisible spirit.

Every physical thing on planet earth comes from the One Divine Source and all are made from identical fragments of energy. We are one with all creation.

You are probably familiar with the ten commandments, or the "thou shalt not" laws. They have been available to mankind for thousands of years.

There have also been laws of "thou shalt", which have been around even longer. If the thou shalt rules had been followed, there would not have been any reason for the second set.

Your being here is voluntary, self-assigned, and long awaited. Your eternal progression will reflect this human journey.

Here are the "you should/thou shalt" rules for all humans:

# You should express your individual creativity.

Each individual sees things through his own set of circumstances, and so has a unique expression to offer the world. Creativity includes the arts, but is not limited to that, nor is painting, composing, or writing in any way more significant than the creative measures taken to comfort someone in distress, to bring order to conflict or chaos, or to tell a child a story.

People are not taking advantage of the opportunity to enrich their souls if they believe some situation in life prohibits this expression. Indeed, it is quite the opposite. When one rises up against the odds, when we strive to release our creative consciousness, it carries great merit.

Society is formed in such a way that not all people have the opportunity to be leaders. Since there are many more followers, expressing our creative flair becomes even more significant. Creativity is meant to be positive, but we are each given free will. It is possible to use it in a manner that proves negative to oneself and to the world. We can be expressive in the way we comb our hair, select our clothing, arrange our residences, plant a garden, make a craft, or even mend something. The key seems to be to let your actions express you and work to make everything you express something you are proud of.

# Realize that you are accountable.

You are a guest on this planet and, as such, are expected to leave it as you found it, or in better condition. You are accountable for caring for the other life-forms that cannot speak for or help themselves. You are accountable for promises you make, agreements you enter into, and the results of all your actions.

It is important to explain that spiritual evolution does not stop and start. It isn't like turning a water faucet on and off. When a person dies, there is only a pause at some interesting activity while the physical debris is discarded. It is actually impossible to kill anyone. People are Forever beings, although Death does stop the physical expression. You are accountable for your thoughtlessness, as well as all pain and suffering you may have caused to the victim and the reflected influence it has on all others connected to anyone harmed. The deceased person does not hold ill will. It is society that does.

In order to help balance the scales, you must become responsible for everything you say and do. You must learn to honor and cherish life and to help sustain it.

You are accountable for your body. It is a gift borrowed from the elements that your consciousness helped form and gave life to. To neglect it or to abuse it is to be irresponsible.

Each person is accountable for his sexual actions. You are held responsible for guiding the souls of any children conceived, for protecting their bodies, and for setting positive emotional examples.

This rule goes hand in hand with creativity. You are held accountable for what you create and share with the world, for safeguarding others and not harming life.

# Before birth you agreed to help others.

The human existence is not one meant to be spent as a sole traveler. We are designed to support and care for one another. Everything we do should be done with the thought in mind, "What is in the highest good for all life everywhere?"

Service to others means bringing aid, sharing knowledge, and providing a positive addition to someone else's life. All people are born with the right to be treated with respect and dignity. Being of help is extending a hand to the elderly, the children, the ill, and the dying. Service is the opposite of doing things for oneself, for the glory or the economic income. It means being aware that you are part of a team, the team of human consciousness, and the fate of planet earth rises or falls depending on the team activities.

# Mature emotionally.

We each express all the emotional feelings, including anger, frustration, depression, hopelessness, guilt, greed, sadness, and worry, as well as joy, happiness, hope, peace, love, and so forth. As you mature and gain insight into what it is to be human, the goal is to grow, to discipline and select your emotions. As someone famous once said, "You are as happy as you will let yourself be."

Relationships and incidents are circles. They start, continue, and stop at some point. If you mature emotionally, there is no difficulty in closing each circle, leaving no frayed edges, no negative feelings.

It is hoped that you experienced being angry as a child, early in life. You can determine how it feels physically to have your body filled with rage compared to how it feels to use understanding, flexibility, and inner peace. The only way your soul has to connect to your brain awareness is through feeling. If your back hurts, for instance, you should ask why. What does it represent? What can you do to change it? What can you learn? Then take care of what needs to be done physically to correct your body, but don't overlook the thought process and spiritual lessons.

There is also the place of honoring your emotions, especially joy and grief. To suppress either of these can cause physical health challenges to emerge.

One of the most important emotions for the health of any individual and for the health of our planet is the use of laughter. As a human, you are given the awareness, the gift of humor and the ability to express it. Through laughter and lightheartedness, the body can remain healthy and health challenges can be corrected. Humor is a problem suppressor; it adds strength to relationships and brings joy to others. The things we consider humorous and laugh at are to be analyzed closely. The challenge is to avoid being destructive in any manner. humor is so important to your well-being, do not close your eyes for the night's rest unless you have experienced some laughter or joy during the day. If you haven't, get out of bed and find something to be happy about.

Clowns are special people, found in every culture. There is a clown in each of us and an appropriate time in our life to expose that aspect of ourselves. We never grow to old to enjoy ourselves as clowns.

But truthfulness is the key. You can't seek the truth about who you are, why you are here, and how you are doing unless you speak only the truth. Always.

# Entertain.

Yes, part of your earthly task is to distract and redirect the focus of other people as well as yourself. Entertaining is deliberate and is meant to cheer the weary, to soothe the frustrated, to comfort the diseased, and to be an outlet for creative expression. Entertaining yourself can aid in self-discipline and in maturing emotionally. The challenge comes in partaking only in positive entertainment and not always remaining in the role of the one being entertained. Entertainment can be an extremely strong influence, but it cannot be separated from accountability.

# Be a steward of your energy.

Man can neither create nor destroy energy. We can only use it, change it, and rearrange it. All the energy that exists was created in the same instant of time. Every word, every action, every thought you focus on carries with it energy. Everything in our world, both seen and unseen, is a fragment of this stuff called energy. Our world is made up of nothing else.

Why is it so important at this particular time in history that all humans are reminded that their task is to become stewards of their own energy? Because it is collective energy that results in what we see, and in unseen layers of consciousness that surround people and places. Everything in our world is in the process of building up or eroding away based upon energy level. Each word you utter is released, and goes out into the vapors. Our words are never recaptured, never corrected, never retracted. They become a portion of the layer encircling the planet. Over time, the layer has become so filled with victims' screams, with violent actions, with selfish, limited thoughts that a layer of victim consciousness has now formed. People on earth find it easier to tap into that negativity than to bore through it and reach above it. More than half the souls visiting earth today are in the victim-consciousness mode. We created it, and we must dispel it. This can be accomplished by each of us becoming aware of our stewardship and setting an example. Whatever you focus on grows. Feeling like a victim, blaming others, and wallowing in self-pity only add to the negative vibration. You must change your attitude, forgive and forget, become more optimistic, look to the positive. Put your heart into the other thou shalt tasks, and let all the victim relationship attachments be severed.

# Indulge in music.

One of the great gifts given the human race is the ability to vocalize in a range of tones more far-reaching than any other life-form and the ability to make instruments that will also produce the sounds of music. Creative expression and entertainment can involve music, but it is so important, it ranks as a separate and distinct task of its own. Music influences all mankind, and, indeed, the energy of music can be healing for both body and planet. Listening to peaceful music set to the pace of the human pulse can have a profound positive influence on one's nerves and mental state. Everyone is musical and is influenced by it. Music is your soul speaking. It is the voice of our planet communicating to the universe.

# Strive to achieve wisdom.

Wisdom is a very separate issue from knowledge. Knowledge is learning that can be obtained from many sources: books, schools, the media, and experience. It is what IQ is based upon. A person can be extremely intelligent and not possess one ounce of wisdom. Wisdom is how a person uses knowledge. It is the deliberate, selective decision to act in a certain way or not to act at all, considering the welfare of everyone concerned.

There is no earthly requirement to attend school or to get a degree. Reading and writing are helpful, but they are not necessary to have a successful spiritual journey as a human being.

You must strive toward wise action, bearing in mind that all souls are having the same human experience, all are visitors and guests on Mother Earth. All are one with the Creator. All of creation came from the same One Source. It is a show of wisdom to honor the purpose of all things and to do that which is in the highest good for all life everywhere.

# Learn self-discipline.

It isn't anyone else's obligation to see that each of us chooses actions that are compatible with peaceful, productive, joyous life on this planet. Unfortunately, laws have been found necessary because people did not live in this way.

It is possible to overindulge. It is possible to become addicted, to be negligent, to be greedy. It is possible to be cruel and to be destructive. Self-discipline will keep these things in check, and help toward the task of gaining wisdom.

Self-discipline can help keep your body healthy. The state of human health is a barometer showing us the state of the earth's health. It is necessary to develop self-discipline to experience any inner connectedness of body and soul. Listening to your heart will tell you when something is enough. Learn the difference between hearing what your head says and listening to the message from your heart. Head talk is a product of society. Heart talk is from Forever.

# Observe without judging.

Observing without judging is sometimes called "unconditional love". All humans are spiritual souls. All were created in the same instant. No one is older, smarter or better off than anyone else. Each was given the same one gift, the gift of free will, the freedom of choice. The Source is perfect, and everything created by the Source is perfect. We were created spiritually perfect and have remained so, but our gift lets us believe and act otherwise. We allow ourselves to see ourselves and others as less than perfect and have the adventure of acting less than our potential peaceful selves.

There are no mistakes in terms of Forever. You can't make a mistake because human life is your gift and you are exploring. You can observe what is taking place and, without judging it as wrong, decide that it doesn't smell, taste or feel intuitively good for your path. You then bless it and walk on. That is how you can fulfill the requirement to love everyone. It doesn't mean you like their actions, or how they choose to conduct themselves. But you don't judge the person as being wrong. It is simply not a part of your path. You put no energy in that direction. No words, no actions, no thoughts.

If you judge you must also learn to forgive. Forgive others, forgive situations, forgive yourself.

By using observation without judgment, there is no forgiveness necessary. Observation is linked to understanding, to knowing the truth that all is in perfect Divine Order, that we as humans are only choosing to live less than our perfection. On a daily basis, we can become closer to our potential and reflectively the world will become a more godly place. Ultimately, we will witness the closing of a beautiful golden circle.
Dakota Territory Reverts back to Lakota Control According to U.S., International Law

Washington D.C. – Lakota Sioux Indian representatives declared sovereign nation status today in Washington D.C. following Monday’s withdrawal from all previously signed treaties with the United States Government. The withdrawal, hand delivered to Daniel Turner, Deputy Director of Public Liaison at the State Department, immediately and irrevocably ends all agreements between the Lakota Sioux Nation of Indians and the United States Government outlined in the 1851 and 1868 Treaties at Fort Laramie Wyoming.

“This is an historic day for our Lakota people,” declared Russell Means, Itacan of Lakota. “United States colonial rule is at its end!”

“Today is a historic day and our forefathers speak through us. Our Forefathers made the treaties in good faith with the sacred Canupa and with the knowledge of the Great Spirit,” shared Garry Rowland from Wounded Knee. “They never honored the treaties, that’s the reason we are here today.”

The four member Lakota delegation traveled to Washington D.C. culminating years of internal discussion among treaty representatives of the various Lakota communities. Delegation members included well known activist and actor Russell Means, Women of All Red Nations (WARN) founder Phyllis Young, Oglala Lakota Strong Heart Society leader Duane Martin Sr., and Garry Rowland, Leader Chief Big Foot Riders. Means, Rowland, Martin Sr. were all members of the 1973 Wounded Knee takeover.

“In order to stop the continuous taking of our resources – people, land, water and children- we have no choice but to claim our own destiny,” said Phyllis Young, a former Indigenous representative to the United Nations and representative from Standing Rock.

Property ownership in the five state area of Lakota now takes center stage. Parts of North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming and Montana have been illegally homesteaded for years despite knowledge of Lakota as predecessor sovereign [historic owner]. Lakota representatives say if the United States does not enter into immediate diplomatic negotiations, liens will be filed on real estate transactions in the five state region, clouding title over literally thousands of square miles of land and property.

Young added, “The actions of Lakota are not intended to embarrass the United States but to simply save the lives of our people”.

Following Monday’s withdrawal at the State Department, the four Lakota Itacan representatives have been meeting with foreign embassy officials in order to hasten their official return to the Family of Nations.

Lakota’s efforts are gaining traction as Bolivia, home to Indigenous President Evo Morales, shared they are “very, very interested in the Lakota case” while Venezuela received the Lakota delegation with “respect and solidarity.”

“Our meetings have been fruitful and we hope to work with these countries for better relations,” explained Garry Rowland. “As a nation, we have equal status within the national community.”

Education, energy and justice now take top priority in emerging Lakota. “Cultural immersion education is crucial as a next step to protect our language, culture and sovereignty,” said Means. “Energy independence using solar, wind, geothermal, and sugar beets enables Lakota to protect our freedom and provide electricity and heating to our people.”

The Lakota reservations are among the most impoverished areas in North America, a shameful legacy of broken treaties and apartheid policies. Lakota has the highest death rate in the United States and Lakota men have the lowest life expectancy of any nation on earth, excluding AIDS, at approximately 44 years. Lakota infant mortality rate is five times the United States average and teen suicide rates 150% more than national average . 97% of Lakota people live below the poverty line and unemployment hovers near 85%.

“After 150 years of colonial enforcement, when you back people into a corner there is only one alternative,” emphasized Duane Martin Sr. “The only alternative is to bring freedom into its existence by taking it back to the love of freedom, to our lifeway.”

We are the freedom loving Lakota from the Sioux Indian reservations of Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana who have suffered from cultural and physical genocide in the colonial apartheid system we have been forced to live under. We are in Washington DC to withdraw from the constitutionally mandated treaties to become a free and independent country. We are alerting the Family of Nations we have now reassumed our freedom and independence with the backing of Natural, International, and United States law.
author: "We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are free to join us."

Thu, 20 Dec 2007

The Lakota Indians, who gave the world legendary warriors Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, have withdrawn from treaties with the United States, leaders said Wednesday.

"We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are free to join us," long-time Indian rights activist Russell Means told a handful of reporters and a delegation from the Bolivian embassy, gathered in a church in a run-down neighbourhood of Washington for a news conference.

A delegation of Lakota leaders delivered a message to the State Department on Monday, announcing they were unilaterally withdrawing from treaties they signed with the federal government of the United States, some of them more than 150 years old.

They also visited the Bolivian, Chilean, South African and Venezuelan embassies, and will continue on their diplomatic mission and take it overseas in the coming weeks and months, they told the news conference.

Lakota country includes parts of the states of Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.

The new country would issue its own passports and driving licences, and living there would be tax-free — provided residents renounced their US citizenship, Means said.

The treaties signed with the United States are merely "worthless words on worthless paper," the Lakota freedom activists say on their website.

The treaties have been "repeatedly violated in order to steal our culture, our land and our ability to maintain our way of life," the reborn freedom movement says.

Withdrawing from the treaties was entirely legal, Means said.

"This is according to the laws of the United States, specifically article six of the constitution," which states that treaties are the supreme law of the land, he said.

"It is also within the laws on treaties passed at the Vienna Convention and put into effect by the US and the rest of the international community in 1980. We are legally within our rights to be free and independent," said Means.

The Lakota relaunched their journey to freedom in 1974, when they drafted a declaration of continuing independence — an overt play on the title of the United States' Declaration of Independence from England.

Thirty-three years have elapsed since then because "it takes critical mass to combat colonialism and we wanted to make sure that all our ducks were in a row," Means said.

One duck moved into place in September, when the United Nations adopted a non-binding declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples — despite opposition from the United States, which said it clashed with its own laws.

'...Once proud tribes becoming mere facsimiles of white people...'

"We have 33 treaties with the United States that they have not lived by. They continue to take our land, our water, our children," Phyllis Young, who helped organise the first international conference on indigenous rights in Geneva in 1977, told the news conference.

The US "annexation" of Native American land has resulted in once proud tribes such as the Lakota becoming mere "facsimiles of white people," said Means.

Oppression at the hands of the US government has taken its toll on the Lakota, whose men have one of the shortest life expectancies — less than 44 years — in the world.

Lakota teen suicides are 150 percent above the norm for the United States; infant mortality is five times higher than the US average; and unemployment is rife, according to the Lakota freedom movement's website.

"Our people want to live, not just survive or crawl and be mascots," said Young.

"We are not trying to embarrass the United States. We are here to continue the struggle for our children and grandchildren," she said, predicting that the battle would not be won in her lifetime.

Everyone wants to know what a future neo-tribal society would look like and how it would work. I feel that us neo-tribalists have been asking the wrong questions. We already have examples of traditional tribes and even some of modern tribalism. The rub comes into applying that model to our current situation. It is just too large and complicated a question to ask. It's incredibly hard to envision or plan out a society in detail, especially a non-existant one. In my experience, creating new things is messy and largely develops through DOING things on the fly anyway. So let's set aside planning out future societies for a moment and turn to something simpler but even more crucial to tribalism.

If you didn't have to work a job, what would you do? What are your passions? What do you enjoy? What would you like to have more time to do? (It might help to think about what you did as a kid in your playtimes and much greater "free time.")

Please don't give an answer such as, "Create a sustainable community" or "Buy some property and live off the land." If you REALLY do enjoy meeting new people and introducing mutual friends (networking), then say that. If you REALLY do enjoy gardening or hunting, then say that. I'm not asking about your dreams of life beyond civilization or what you feel obligated to do. I'm asking you to share what you would really like to do right now if you simply didn't have to work.

I'll go first with a couple things off the top of my head: I really enjoy music and dancing. I would spend much more time developing my dancing, discovering new music, maybe making some of my own, and dancing my ass off to all of it.

I also dig creating themed fantasy environments that are partly an artistic display and partly an interactive playground. When I was a kid, my friends and I would spend days building a fort until it was just right and then we'd have play battles. As an adult, I do the same thing but with different themes and make it a party as well.

I'll probably add some more in the next couple days as those aren't my sole passions but I wanted to get this post out there so I can hear your thoughts too. I'm very curious to hear what you folks would do if you didn't have to work a job.

The problems that face our planet as Icecaps melt, upcoming peak oil crisis and war machines rage are problems that stem from a system that does'nt work. Let us look to the tribal cutures for possible solutions. Many of these cultures have survived so much longer than our little 10,000 year old civilization. Civilization needs to go for the planet to survive imo. It's time for new visions, and some of those visions could be informed by the tribal societies that remain hidden away from civilization.

Within these visions lies such a great promise. I can feel a Future that's real, that works and I feel it grow brighter. It's not time for that so played out "Us vs. Them" cycle.
Different groups know it. We can't fix civilization....It's been tried countless times in countless ways. We need a new model.

We are a couple seeking others like us. We realize that people don't often function well alone, or even in extremely small groups (think "single family"). We believe that the two of us (and many others) work well in tribes. We would like to create such a tribe.

He is a yoga instructor/philosopher/magickian. She is an herbalist/nutritionist/natural shaman. We are currently (and for the foreseeable future) eating a "paleo" or "caveman" diet. We are mature, in love, and full of ideals and energy. We know more than some people, and less than others. We are ready to move forward.

We wish to have a tribe of people. The number is flexible but should be kept below Dunbar's Number ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunbar's_number ); 25 to 50 is probably a good range. These people would help one another, feed one another, heal one another, and tell stories to one another. We would mostly disconnect from "modern society", as we feel that although society does have some benefits, it is not being expressed in a wise manner at this time. We would interact with society only on certain matters which lie at the border of our common goals: land ownership, taxes, income, interacting with people outside our tribe, Internet access, books, certain realms of knowledge that mesh with our goals, etc. We could host retreats for those who wish to experience our lives and their own. We could write, paint, sing, and teach for any income we need.

We are currently living near Boulder, CO. For various reasons, we don't like it and are planning to move by Summer 2008. In the meantime, we could create community here, sharing a home or homes, and seeing how we fit together as people.

Where will we move? We will most likely move to Alaska. Yes, you heard correctly: Alaska. Beautiful, natural, more temperate than you may think, full of sustainable natural resources, a non-oppressive government and populace, plenty of space, a reasonable cost - all these things are benefits, but we're getting the impression that there is something else there: that it is "real". The people there are "real". Not in some "keep it real, dude!" sort of way, but in a "If you do this, you'll succeed, but do this other thing and you die. Good luck!" sort of way. The few Alaskans we know are very alive, real, honest people.

That's what we're seeking: "real" people. We have met our shares of flakes. We understand that everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and that everyone is improving parts of themselves throughout their lives. But, to do this, people must be willing to truly live and love and be. We will hunt together, build together, make music together, and create lives together. Be "real", and we'll all learn and grow.

Drop us a note if you're interested (tell us why), or if you're not interested (tell us why not), or if you have a comment.

Thank you!

Let me assure you that this is no mere act of hubris in effect. The groups of talent that have already decided to participate will be more than capable of manifesting change... Of this I haven't the slightest doubt, anywhere in my being...
ALTERNATIVE AIDS CURES?

by G. J. Krupey

Steamshovel Press #5

In "AIDS: ACT OF OF GOD OR THE PENTAGON?" i dealt with the most persistent and sinister of the alternative origin theories of AIDS, that of AIDS as a US military chemical-biological warfare agent deliberately or accidentally released upon an unsuspecting population. while unable to prove or disprove, the allegation, i marshalled enough evidence, circumstantial perhaps, but compelling, to at least show that the theory is far from being the incredible nonsense that denigrators of the theory, most of them paid government agents or mass media hacks (any difference?), have dismissed it as.

The official, government-approved theory is, as we should all be aware by now, that AIDS is the result of the human immunosuppressive virus (HIV),and for which there is no known, effective cure. but just as there are those who question the official origin theory and offer alternatives, there are those who question the official pronouncement of no-known-cure, and in fact, offer one of their own. to these people, what caused AIDS is not as important as how to stop its spread and cure those who already suffer from it. most of these cures, perhaps not so surprisingly, are rather simple and inexpensive, and, of course, ignored or suppressed.

It is not my intention in this survey of alternative AIDS cures to promote or recommend any of them. am neither a doctor nor a scientist; i can prove nothing. the information given here, in the immortal words of the Food and Drug Administration, is strictly for the purposes of education and research, and no intention to prescribe treatment is intended. that said, let us examine the alternatives.

currently, the only federally-approved substance available for relieving the symptoms of AIDS is the very expensive and highly toxic AZT (clinical name Zidovudine, brand name Retrovir), manufactured by the Burroughs-Wellcome pharmaceutical firm. first developed by the National Cancer Institute as an anti-cancer drug. it was purchased by Burroughs-Wellcome, offered B-W a chance to recoup their losses on their previously useless investment. in 1986, AZT was rushed through the FDA's approval procedure faster than any drug had ever been approved before, and "proven" to be effective and safe by studies that AIDS activists insist were shoddy, mismanaged and inconclusive. (1)

however, Burroughs-Wellcome mad a real "killing" on the toxic drug. it's stock "went through the roof" when the official announcement from the FDA was made. by the mid-nineties, stock market analysts predicted, Burroughs-Wellcome would earn about $2billion from sales of AZT, with estimated gross profits of $230 million for 1990 alone. (2)

a chemotherapeutic drug, AZT causes severe debilitating side effects in patients that it is administered to, such as depletion of both red and white blood cells, and bone marrow. for these reasons, expensive and time-consuming blood transfusions are necessary. this adds another $750 to the already extortionate $8,000-10,000 per patient per year price of AZT (the most expensive drug in history). (3) many AZT recipients, claiming that the cure ids worse than the disease, have gone off AZT and decided to take their chances, some seeking out alternative cures. this is an even more pressing concern when it is remembered that AZT only buys an AIDS victim about a year's worth of extra time. physicians are now urging AZT as a preventive upon patients testing positive for HIV antibodies, even when no AIDS symptoms are present (most recently seen in the Magic Johnson episode), operating under the unproven assumption, by no means proven, that HIV presence guarantees eventual full-blown AIDS which guarantees eventual death. it would seem that the only guarantee of death is to take AZT, especially as a preventive.

This is the situation that has made the development of alternatives to AZT so vital. fortunately, it would seem that they exist.

One of the most promising and oddly simple of these is AL 721, made from three active lipids extracted from chicken egg yolks, and blended together in a precise reaction of seven parts to tow parts to one part. hence its title, AL 721, which means Active Lipids AT A RATIO OF 7:2:1. it was developed in the late seventies at Israel's Weizmann Institute of Science team headed by Meir Shinitsky. AL 721 proved effective in treating many diseases: memory loss, drug addiction and alcoholism withdrawal, cystic fibrosis in children, and in repairing damaged immune systems, the latter making it a perfect candidate for treating AIDS.

But it wasn't until 1985 that any attempt was made to treat AIDS with AL 721. the results were positive, and seconded by (of all people) Dr. Robert Gallo of the National Cancer Institute, the man who "discovered" the HIV virus and remains the high priest of the HIV-as_sole-cause-of-AIDS cult. Gallo confirmed that AL 721 was an effective, nontoxic inhibitor of HIV with no side effects. (4)

The AL 721 treatment is simple enough. it is made into a buttery substance that is spread onto a piece of bread and eaten by the patient once in the morning for several weeks until the symptoms disappear. AL 721 works by stripping away the cholesterol-hardened membranes of virally infected cells with lecithin, a substance that AL 721 us rich in. returning the cell membranes to a fluid, pliable, and healthy condition. envelope viruses like HIV, which are armored in rigid shells, are then unable to interact with, and infect, the healthy cells. it doesn't so much destroy the HIV virus as it weakens it , by extracting the cholesterol from the infected cell membrane. the HIV is then rendered inactive. (5)

In 1986, Dr. Yehuda Skornick of Tel Aviv treated thirty AIDS patients in this manner, only one died, the rest, it is reported, returned home in revitalized health. patients remained, at last report, without symptoms for as long as 19 months. (6)

AL 721 is now the exclusive property of a Los Angeles-based company called Ethigen, which received the international rights for manufacturing and marketing from the Weizmann Institute in 1982, before it was realized how effective AL 721 could be in use against AIDS. the release of AL 721 to the people who needed it most was stalled. Ethigen claimed not to have the minimum amount needed to finance FDA drug testing (about $50 million), and the National Institute of Health sat on it, favoring the more lucrative AZT. (7) AIDS activists accused Ethigen of holding out for federal drug tests and approval for reasons of venality, pointing out that AL 721 could have been easily and quickly released to the public by marketing it as a food substance rather than as a drug. underground clinics sprang up in the meantime to produce their own AL 721 and sell it at cost to those in need. five months after Celia Farber's SPIN column exposed the whole sordid mess, Ethigen announced that it planned to market AL 721 as a nutritive (8). so far i have come across no reports of its being hailed as a miracle cure for AIDS. whether that is the fault of Ethigen or of the same mass media that continues to harp on the looming danger of the AIDS epidemic while choosing to ignore all options to AZT, i don't know. it would be interesting to discover how many AIDS sufferers- including those now deceased- even knew of its existence.

The other alternative AIDS cures are well known to the medical establishment: penicillin and typhoid vaccine. the problem, from the viewpoint of the AMA/FDA/CDC/NIH/NCI axis, is that to admit to either of them being curative agents for AIDS is to automatically deny the official HIV/AZT catechism and accept the proposition, for which there seems to be much evidence, that AIDS is actually nothing more than another outbreak of a new strain of syphilis, misdiagnosed as a previously unknown disease.

First to make the AIDS/syphilis link was Joan McKenna, a research physiologist at the Institute for Thermobaric Studies in Berkeley, California. she noticed that the symptoms of those suffering from AIDS and syphilis were identical, that the two groups most devastated by AIDS, gay males and African heterosexuals, shared in common high rates of previous syphilis infection, abuse of antibiotics (which leads to immunosuppression), and seronegativity for syphilis in patients who were obviously syphilitic. in other words, blood tests were indicating that people who had syphilis didn't have the disease. this was due to chemically induced immunosuppression, from abuse of both antibiotics and "recreational" drugs like cocaine, qualudes, etc. (10)

However, it was two German doctors, Klaus-Uwe Dierig and Urbad Waldthaler, who initially began using massive doses of penicillin to successfully eliminate syphilitic symptoms in their AIDS patients. in 1988, they told Katie Leishman of the ATLANTIC MONTHLY that 'THE united States would nave never had such a high death toll from AIDS if our [American] doctors had been treating syphilis properly over the last twenty years." (11)

Syphilis, the most destructive and contagious of venereal diseases, is also the most resilient. known as the "great imitator" or "great masquerader<" it is as old as recorded history and prone to periodic outbreaks. it is the disease that won't go away, the one for which there seems to be no cure, no "magic bullet". just when humanity thinks it ha seen the last of it, it pops up again, nastier than ever. despite this, American physicians thought that they had conquered it in the 1950's through massive antibiotics use. instead of destroying the disease, they merely suppressed the symptoms, allowing the real culprit to burrow deep into the immune system "of those who had been [poorly] treated" for it, "causing it to smoulder away like an underground fire". (12) and biding its time to erupt once more, while being passed on to others.

Syphilis is not caused by a virus like HIV, but by a bacterium, a germ, called Treponema pallidum. a spirochete (because of its corkscrew shape, ironically enough). syphilis is notorious for the latency period between infection- it can penetrate every organ in the body within twelve hours of initial infection- and the first manifestations of symptoms. it is this characteristic of the Treponema pallidum, the ability to burrow directly into bodily cells, called intercellularity, that makes it so difficult to detect the spirochetes before they cause real damage, rendering treatment even more difficult, and in some cases impossible. (13)

Despite what seems like overwhelming evidence that AIDS is indeed nothing else but syphilis in a new disguise, there have been no shouts of "Eureka!" from the halls of the medical establishment. when Joan McKenna called the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta with her findings, they replied:

"Well, this isn't new." so i [McKenna] said, "what do you mean it isn't new?" and they said, "we've been getting calls for two years now from physicians who are treating men with AIDS, whose symptoms are consistent with secondary syphilis but whose blood work is negative." so i asked, "well, what are you doing about it?" and they said, "nothing." (14)

As Jon Rappoport states:

"Venereal disease would not be a popular interpretation of AIDS symptoms. no novelty in a discovery like this. there is no quick tie-in to research on new drugs or new vaccines, there is only better management of penicillin. there are no Novels waiting for the man who says, "look for syphilis in your AIDS patients". (15)

Which means that Dr. Stephen Caiazza won't be getting the Nobel Prize any time soon. a New York City physician specializing in immunological research, he became intrigued with the links he found between AIDS and syphilis when he noticed the paucity of syphilis cases when all other venereal diseases were flourishing, and the only cases of syphilis he was treating were AIDS patients with syphilitic symptoms. when treated with penicillin, their symptoms disappeared. (16) intrigued by McKenna's findings, he traveled with her to Germany to study the finding of Dierig and Waldthaler. his experiences there convinced Caiazza that he was on the right track. the standard America blood test for syphilis was no good, as patients who tested negative on it tested positive on the much more sophisticated blood tests used by the German doctors. that, coupled with the use of the wrong type of penicillin to treat syphilis, benzathine penicillin, which does not penetrate the blood-brain barrier as the syphilis spirochetes themselves can. therefor, when elimination of syphilis symptoms indicated that the penicillin had done its job, most doctors would terminate the penicillin infection under the mistaken assumption that the disease was cured. but in actuality, it continued to flourish within the spinal column, brain, and eyes, all organs beyond the reach of benzathine penicillin. to compensate for this, Caiazza included in his treatment protocol along with benzathine penicillin, the drug doxycycline, an antibiotic which can cross the blood-brain barrier and kills spirochetes when they are at their most vulnerable, when doubling (reproducing). (17)

the validity of Caiazza's theory would seem to be in his success rate. operating under the assumption that HIV was the cause of AIDS and antiviral drugs the only possible treatment, in his own words, "between 1982-1986 i lost somewhere in excess of 200 patients, which i believe...averages out to approximately one a week." (18) after he began working from the AIDS-as-syphilis hypothesis, and treating his patients with the benzathine penicillin doxycycline regimen,m in one year (1986), he lost only one patient our of 216. all were diagnosed as having either AIDS or AIDS-Related Complex (ARC). Caiazza reported that his ten sickest patients, who should have already been dead or close to it according to their initial prognoses, were recovered and living full, productive lives, with only minor AIDS-syphilis symptoms. (19)

if Dr. Caiazza has not solved the AIDS mystery, her certainly seems to have taken a step in the right direction. not that everyone is ruching to lay the laurel crown upon hi head. "Caiazza's work, like that of others who have strayed from the HIV herd, had been harshly criticized by his peers, and he has been continually monitored, to the point of harassment, by the New York State Health Department since his return from Europe in early 1987:. (20)

Dr. Caiazza himself is under no illusions as to why he is so unpopular. "i've talked to a number of officials in New York, both city and state, and they aren't interested at all" in his findings. (21) in his interview with Celia Farber in SPIN, when asked about his dealings with the medical establishment, he was completely candid.

he noted that he represented a threat to a powerful"whole retroviral industry mostly funded by the government", chief of whom are the AZT pushers at Burroughs-Wellcome. "i can do with a couple of hundred dollars of generic penicillin what has taken them $10,000 to do". ($10,000 being the cost of one year's supply of AZT for one patient). to drive home his point:

"let me tell you a true story: the penicillin i use is manufactured by a company i called up, and i spoke to the fellow in charge of research. i said, "i;m suing about two thousand dollars of your medicine a month. help me out a little bit. i can only treat rich people, give me some help so i can treat some poor people here" and you know what he said? he said, "listen, i'm going to be perfectly honest with you. you're dealing with a generic medicine here. we're in the process of developing some real, legitimate AIDS medicines. why should we give you $150,000 in order to prove that the medicines that we're working on, which are going to be incredibly profitable, aren't necessary?"

for Dr. Caiazza, that summed up the whole thing. and he concluded,

"there's no money in what i'm doing. there's no money for the doctor, there's no money for the pharmaceutical house, there's no money for the researcher, there's no money for the scientist. the only one who profits is the patient". (22)

another maverick who has challenged the AIDS party line and achieved success in treating AIDS patients for syphilis is Long Island medical technician Salvatore Catapano. Catapano was awarded a patent (one of three only) for AIDS treatment for his typhoid vaccine. the patent statement concludes: "it has been found that a complete immunization and remission of a person afflicted with AIDS may be achieved by the administration with typhoid vaccine with no observed toxicity". (23)

a researcher with over forty years experience in exploring cancer and venereal disease, Catapano first became acquainted with the study of syphilis while serving in the navy in the Pacific during World War Two. during the war, several members of his family died of cancer, which led Catapano away from the study of syphilis and toward the effort to discover a cure for the disease that robbed him of so many loved ones. Catapano rejected the approved treatments of chemo- and radiation therapies and focused instead on something that would bolster the body's own best defense mechanism, the immune system. he tried several different vaccines until, in 1970, he hit paydirt with the typhoid vaccine which proved superior in the reduction of cancer tumors and in stimulating the immune system's production of T lymphocyte cells., the very cells that the HIV virus allegedly destroys, according to the official theory (24). kin 1978, Catapano was able to have the National Cancer Institute perform animal experiments with his typhoid vaccine, and they confirmed the results. that Catapano, an independent researcher with no connections to any university or hospital, was able to have the NCI take his vaccine seriously enough to test it was the doing of its then director Dr. Arthur Upton, an unusually open-minded member of the medical establishment. Upton said, "people thought i was wasting my time talking to someone without an MD or other scientific credentials. but its easy to forget, now that science is such a well organized profession, that a century ago, it was conducted by amateurs". (25) to easy to forget, unfortunately, as the fortunes of the dissenters from the HIV establishment attest.

in 1982, Catapano began working with Dr. Miguel Cima in administering the typhoid vaccine to AIDS patients willing to risk the untested (on humans) treatment. Catapano was struck by the similarities of their symptoms to the syphilitics he saw during the war. all the symptoms were the same, even the mysterious Kaposi's Sarcoma and pneumocystis carinii pneumonia that were the two leading causes of death in AIDS patients. coming to the same conclusion that McKenna, Caiazza, Dierig and Waldthaler did, he surmised that AIDS was a bacterial not viral induced disease, and AIDS victims were "suffering from extraordinarily entrenched late-staging syphilis, its symptoms exaggerated by multiple exposures, the resulting depression of the immune system and misapplication of antibiotics and radiation. once the immune system is restored with typhoid vaccine...a course of penicillin should bring the patient into remission". (26)

so successful has Catapano's vaccine been, that since he was granted the patent in 1987, doctors all over the US have paid him the royalties to use his regimen (which demands strict adherence to his protocol otherwise it will be rendered ineffective and even possibly dangerous). Catapano insists that no other treatment should be used along with the typhoid vaccine, especially any chemotherapy or radiation. this precludes AZT, which Catapano "regards as a death sentence and its use as a double tragedy, because he is convinced that AIDS is really syphilis, which is treatable, and for which an anti-viral drug, like AZT, can do nothing". (27) Catapano was even approached by Burroughs-Wellcome, who were interested in using the typhoid vaccine as "an immune moderator" for their property. Catapano refused, and remarked: "why would anybody give daily chemotherapy to patients who are already severely immune suppressed" in's crazy. " (28)

Dr. Emmanuel Revici, the founder of the Institute of Applied Biology (164 91st st., New York, NY 10028< (212) 876-9669) has formulated yet another method of healing AIDS. Revici doesn't "cure" the patient as much as he enables him to heal himself. Revici's system postulates that good health comes from a balanced dualism between two opposite states of being which he designates as anabolic, when the immune system is in a positive mode of building up, and catabolic, when the immune system is in a negative mode of building down. in a healthy person, the anabolic-catabolic sequence fluctuates within one twenty-four hour period, providing just the right amounts of anabolic energy for daytime activities, while catabolic repairs are made during sleep. the pH balance between acids and alkalines must also be maintained. with anabolic activity, the level of alkalinity rises (high pH), and with catabolic activity, the acidity level is dominant (low pH). (29)

when an imbalance occurs, Revici treats it with the injection of lipids, or fatty acids, that help boost production of the t-cells that AIDS depletes. (lipids are also the active ingredient in AL 721). in the case of anabolic imbalance, lipid acids, sulfur, selenium, magnesium, and lipid-copper compounds are used; in the case of catabolic imbalance, lipid alcohols, lithium, zinc, and iron compounds are used. Revici's program operates in four stages: 1) antiviral agents are injected to combat primary viral infection; 2) the immune system is bolstered with refractory (disease-fighting) lipids; 3) the secondary opportunistic infections (usually Kaposi's Sarcoma or pneumocystis carinii pneumonia) is treated with the appropriate medication, antibiotics, antimicrobials, or antifungals; 4( the imbalance is categorized as anabolic or catabolic, and treated as required. (30)

Rivici's system requires the patient to be as involved in and responsible for his treatment as much as the physician. constant monitoring and charting of pH levels are necessary. yet he has produced near miraculous cures with this method, not only of AIDS patients, but also of terminal cancer patients who were told to "go home and die" by mainstream medical practitioners. like Salvatore Catapano. Revici will not treat patients on AZT. as one of his associates explained, "AZT will totally destroy the lipids." (31)

as could be expected, Dr. Revici has drawn the wrath of the medical establishment. among his more heinous crimes, apparently, is his tendency not to charge patients who can't afford treatment. one Long Island doctor, who also happened to be a lawyer, sued Dr. Revici for malpractice. the jury acquitted him, even though the judge directed the jury to find for malpractice leading to a US Court of Appeals decision that found for Revici, in what is considered a landmark, precedent-setting case for the rights of patients to seek alternative medical therapies. (32)

and as the devastation rates of catastrophic diseases like AIDS and cancer continue to grow, that precedent will be increasingly relied upon by desperate people fleeing the disaster area of mainstream medicine. when a Harvard Medical School biostatistician writes in the NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE that "we are losing the war on cancer", and when the war on AIDS looks like it was lost even before it began, the time has come to make a radical reappraisal of the current orthodoxy. and those few physicians who have done just that, like Emmanuel Revici, are attacked because of the threat they pose to that still lucrative disaster area.

traveling 360 degrees in the opposite direction from his colleagues in the medical establishment, and arriving at the destination sooner and with the least casualties, physicians like Emmanuel Revici have realized that freeing the human body from disease is not the same thing as replacing defective parts on an automobile.

"Revici would rather assist the body to heal itself, through a diligent, time-consuming, holistic process, than cutting, burning, and/or poisoning the disease. traditional solutions of surgery,y, radiation, and toxic chemotherapy have been shown in case after case to cause extreme physical and emotional trauma, often exacerbating the symptoms and speeding progression to an excruciatingly painful, and tremendously expensive, death". (33)

there are other, perhaps promising, treatments on the horizon, all said to cure AIDS. there is Compound Q, of Tricosanthin, a drug derived from the root of the Chinese cucumber. FDA foot-dragging, as usual, led to an underground system of clinics where the desperate could risk everything on the remote possibility that an unknown substance could be the Holy Grail. (34) in Kenya, scientists at Kemri, the Kenyan Medical Research Institute in Nairobi, developed kemron, and oral alpha interferon, small doses of which have been said to eliminate major AIDS symptoms within merely a few weeks. (35) once again, early extravagant claims led to an informal underground developing around the drug which, like Compound Q, is said to raise T-cell counts to high, healthy levels. even more incredible claims have been made for such oddly simple treatments like megadoses of ascorbate (vitamin C)which "disarm the unwanted antibodies and at the same time augment the immune system's attack on the parasite". according to Dr. Robert Cathcart. (36)

another purported AIDS cure found in every household is hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). when diluted to one half of 1% or less, it can be administered orally, the highly oxygenated solution destroys the HIV virus, or whatever anaerobic parasite (which flourish without free oxygen) infect the patient. Dr. Horst Kief and other German doctors claimed to have destroyed not only AIDS but "herpes, hepatitis, Epstein-Barr, cytomegalovirus, and other lipid-envelope viruses" through a hyper-oxygenation process whereby blood withdrawn from the patient is infused with electrified ozone (O3), and then the blood, saturated with the oxygen-enhanced, virus-destroying ozone, is infused back into the patient. this is done from twice a week to twice a day, depending upon the severity of the case. (36) since most of these claims have been "anecdotal" rather than the doubleblind/placebo, controlled studies favored by the American medical establishment, they have been conveniently disregarded. (37)

in light of all this, it seems hard to deny that AIDS may not be a new and deadly disease, relentless and impervious t treatment, elusive o even plausible explanation as to its origin, but the latest outbreak of an old disease that refuses to disappear, a serious menace but one will enough understood, and capable of being effectively treated. this is hardly good news: no one expects AIDS victims to suddenly shout, 'yippee! i don't have an immunosuppressive virus after all, i just have syphilis!" but- and this is a big but- it should come as a relief to those suffering from AIDS and those attempting to treat them, as well as the millions of us scared silly by the doomsday rhetoric of the last few years, to know that this is not an insurmountable plague, or the looming death of the human race as we know it. it's not the wrath of some genocidal deity even crueler than his fallible creations, or the implacable revenge of an outraged Mother Nature trying to extinguish her most destructive parasite; or the secret biowarfare weapon of either Us or Them...

at least, that's how you would think it would be by now. bit it isn't. you only have to watch the CDC's "public service" commercials on television, or read an article in a mainstream news magazine to realize that the HIV myth is still dominant. why? for one thing, the medical profession has made no attempt to retract its collective error or revise its findings. too many egos and reputations, not to mention too much money, on the line. it's quite embarrassing, this, the single greatest fuck up in the history of modern medicine. never mind that people are dying, and will continue to die, needlessly: slowly and painfully deteriorating day by day because of this willful blindness. can the medical establishment really be this vain, this ignorant, this stupid? or is there, after all, some more sinister, covert purpose at work here, are we back in conspiracy theory territory again? what looks like the deliberate suppression of the simple solution to a falsely elaborate mystery can be seen to point that way.

from 1932-1972- forty years- the US Public Health Service, the direct precursor of the current Center for Disease /Control, conducted an experiment on approximately 400 black men in Macon County, Alabama, the now notorious Tuskegee experiment. during this time, these black men, all suffering from syphilis but kept ignorant of the fact by the doctors running the study, were monitored as to the progression of the disease and its effects on them. basically,m it was an experiment to determine at close range the condition and behavior of men slowly and unknowingly dying of a vicious venereal disease, purely for the purposes of scientific progress, of course. this went on while the Nazis conducted similar experiments in the death camps, while a penicillin treatment for syphilis was devised and denied these men, and while the civil rights movement arose. yet is wasn't until 1972 that the Tuskegee experiment was ended after a disgusted federal worker, who had been trying since 1966 to stop the experiment, leaked the story to the press. otherwise it would still be going on today.

At Intention Summer Camp ( on the Sunshine Coast BC )I hosted a Council of Intention to focalize the shared passions and synergetic potentials of those gathered in the neotribal movement. I asked those present to consider some questions that might act as servitors of manifesting our collective dreams. I share what came out here for those people and others to consider:

What resources do we need to see the dream manifest?

How do we organize the resources we can have (to publish, to spread to people)?

How do we distribute food?

How do we prioritize resources?

How do u wake people up? Engage people to obtain mutual benefit? How do we open each other up more?

How do we recognize our mutual needs?

How can we satisfy all of our needs?

How can we reach people we can service with our offerings?

How can we express and channel the form of being we experience in these events into the rest of our lives?
