A FUN-da-mental question

Everyone wants to know what a future neo-tribal society would look like and how it would work. I feel that us neo-tribalists have been asking the wrong questions. We already have examples of traditional tribes and even some of modern tribalism. The rub comes into applying that model to our current situation. It is just too large and complicated a question to ask. It's incredibly hard to envision or plan out a society in detail, especially a non-existant one. In my experience, creating new things is messy and largely develops through DOING things on the fly anyway. So let's set aside planning out future societies for a moment and turn to something simpler but even more crucial to tribalism.

If you didn't have to work a job, what would you do? What are your passions? What do you enjoy? What would you like to have more time to do? (It might help to think about what you did as a kid in your playtimes and much greater "free time.")

Please don't give an answer such as, "Create a sustainable community" or "Buy some property and live off the land." If you REALLY do enjoy meeting new people and introducing mutual friends (networking), then say that. If you REALLY do enjoy gardening or hunting, then say that. I'm not asking about your dreams of life beyond civilization or what you feel obligated to do. I'm asking you to share what you would really like to do right now if you simply didn't have to work.

I'll go first with a couple things off the top of my head: I really enjoy music and dancing. I would spend much more time developing my dancing, discovering new music, maybe making some of my own, and dancing my ass off to all of it.

I also dig creating themed fantasy environments that are partly an artistic display and partly an interactive playground. When I was a kid, my friends and I would spend days building a fort until it was just right and then we'd have play battles. As an adult, I do the same thing but with different themes and make it a party as well.

I'll probably add some more in the next couple days as those aren't my sole passions but I wanted to get this post out there so I can hear your thoughts too. I'm very curious to hear what you folks would do if you didn't have to work a job.

  • Without having to work a job? ...Plenty of things. To develop more self understanding, and the just how big we really are. How well do we know the places we call home?

Being that You are a musician, there is seems to be so many levels to the art of music to explore. It seems that the rest of the world is quite ahead of the western "culture" imo. A cracking in the imaginery walls that "seperate" musical paradigms seems to be taking place right now. Perhaps a huge shift will take place on the western music scene soon.

I see jobs very similar to the way that I see public schools. many seem rather prison like, and champion crushing personal imagination. I'd love to see things turnaround, and for a shift to a more solution focused culture.

What directions would develop out of such a situation?
  • I'd go with numbers and technology.
Keeping the numbers of "villages" below 100 people a piece.
Keeping the technology sustainable and local.
If that was achievable, I would be willing retrain for any occupation in exchange. :)
